Although initially this
invasion will not be highly significant, in time, it will become more
of a factor in the final growth. It is expected that invaders will
initially include grasses such as Muhly, some fescues, and especially
the needlegrasses. Forbs will include the sages, especially Fringed
Sage, and Arctostaohvlos. In time, it is expected that trees will
invade the sites, particularly Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, and
• possibly a return of Aspen from root sprouts carried in the soil. The
invasion of these species will add considerable diversity to the
initial vegetation and provide a more natural character to the
vegetation of the site.
WATER RESOURCES: Water control was discussed under grading.
Basically, protection of the water resources will be achieved through
the production of topographic configurations which permit the control
of runoff without significant on site retention. This is achieved on
the slopes by leaving a rough surface and in the valley bottom by
producing small catchments not more than a foot to a foot and a half
deep. These shallow catchments should accumulate sufficient water to
support a dense growth of grasses producing, in effect, a grassed
waterway with an irregular, rolling topogr.:,~hy.
•
15
