I
_ L ~ GOMMEXOIAL TESTING & ENGINEEPING OO.
~ ~ETHODS cont.
The following tests were conducted in the Preliminary Toxicity Identification evaluation:
Dav 1
Initial Toxicity Test - C. dubia were exposed to 0%, 1.7%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% effluent
concentrations prepared using reconstituted laboratory water at 120 mg/L CaC03. Twenty
organisms were exposed at each increasing concentration level.
Dav 2
Baseline Degradation Test - C. dubia were exposed to a dilution water blank and 50%, 75%,
and 100% effluent concentrations prepared using reconstituted laboratory water at 120 mg/L
CaCO~. Twenty organisms per concentration were exposed approximately 24 hours after the start
of the Initial Toxicity Test.
:~ Filtration/pH Adjustment Test (pH 3) -Twenty C. dubia were exposed to a dilution water
blank and 50%, 75%, and 100% effluent adjusted to pH 3 with Hydrochloric Acid (HCI) and
filtered through a 0.45 µm fiber filter. Prior to organism exposure the effluent was readjusted
~~ back to pHi4 with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). Dilutions were prepared with reconstituted
laboratory water at 120 mglL CaC03.
I
~~ Filtration/pH Adjustment Test (pH 10) - Twenty C dubia were exposed to a dilution water
blank and 50%, 75%, and 100% effluent adjusted to pH 10 with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and
i filtered through a 0.45 µm fiber filter. Prior to organism exposure the effluent was readjusted
~' back to pHi with Hydrochloric Acid (HCl}. Dilutions were prepared with reconstituted
laboratory water at 120 mg/L CaC03
`' Filtration/pH Unadjustment Test (pHi) -Twenty C. dubia were exposed to a dilution water
_, blank and 50%, 75%, and 100% effluent without pH adjustment and filtered through a 1.0
i micron glass fiber filter. Dilutions were prepared with reconstituted laboratory water at 120 mg/L
'~ CaC03.
~ Aeration/pH Adjustment Test (pH 10) -Twenty C. dubia were exposed to a dilution water
`• blank and 50%, 75%, and 100% effluent adjusted to pH 10 with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and
__ vigorously aerated for one hour. Prior to organism exposure the effluent was readjusted back to
J pHi with Hydrochloric Acid (HCI). Dilutions were prepared with reconstituted laboratory water
at 120 mg/L CaC03.
.~
" Initial pH
3
i
>•
a:
F 526
