Dept. of ]l~w~~.. .
Enclosed is additional information requested for our applications for seven gravel
pits operated by Rio Blanco County, your file numbers 77-135, 136 and 137, 78-1,
2, 3 and 4.
Reference Rangely Pit (77-135)
1. Channeling means a gentle Swale to facilitate drainage to the west as shown on
reclaimed contour drawing.
2. The community pit lies westerly of the area noted on drawings as "permit area".
Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge will be responsible only for the area designated
as permit area.
Prather Pit (77-136)
1. Reference mining plan which states depth of gravel as approximately 100 feet
and that due to safety reasons, 30 foot benches are being excavated in order to
obviate any unstable high faces. The material will be mined from the top down
and out toward the crusher in 30 foot increments until the floor of the pit reaches
a point where a uniform 2:1 slope from the property line intersects. The result-
ing slope wlll be uniform and no "benches" will remain.
2. Since the optioned area is 6.0 acres, and the pit has been operated for many
years, the area disturbed at this time is approximately 45 acres. The remaining
area will not be disturbed.
3. There is approximately 200 cubic yards of topsoil stockpiled and it will be
placed uniformly over the floor of the pit which would cover 1/8 acre 6" deep.
Layton Pit (77-137)
1. Average depth of topsoil was approximately 6 inches.
2. Approximately 3.5 acres have not been disturbed.
3. Topsoil is stockpiled along the northern part of the permit area.
T
4. The average depth of the face is approximately 10 feet and the depth after
reclamation will be approximately the same. '
