Iw

Alternative Post-Mining Land Use for Certain Areas
The Meeker Area Mines were reclaimed in 1985 and 1985. Although
almost all areas were reclaimed with the vegetative cover
stipulated in the permit for grazing land use, the landowner has
also desired that a few items from the mining operation remain it
conjunction with his thriving hunting and fishing businesses. The
reclaimed minesites are part of a substantial tract of private
land which is well-known for its elk and mule deer populations.
Private hunters pay substantial sums to hunt each fall on this
land. This hunting business is also supplemented with a fishing
business that also uses the sediment ponds for trout and catfish.
All items to remain for recreational use are described in detail
below. As stated in the landowner's letter, all items have
already been used for the stated uses since 1986. All items of
Rule 4.16.3 are also addressed.
Item #1 Northern #1 Access Road
This road of compacted gravel base with guardrail had been used
as a Class 1 haul road when the mine was operating. It replaced a
pre-existing access road that continued past the Northern #1
portal area, as shown on the revised Exhibit C-7. It is
approximately 5100 feet long and is approximately 20 feet wide
through the mine reclaimed area. The road was well-constructed
and compacted. It greatly improved the access over the original
dirt road that existed prior to mining. The road provides good
hunting access to the property to the east and south.
Item #2 Northern #1 Shop Building and Driveway
The mine shop building is a two story sheet metal building with
steel beam supports on a concrete foundation of dimensions 40
feet x 80 feet. This building is used during the hunting season
to temporarily store carcasses of elk and deer. Also, four-wheel
vehicles used in the hunting trips are also stored in the
building. There is a rock crossing over the re-established
channel and a driveway leading to the building which has nat been
vegetated. The building contains a garage door which allows
storage of vehicles. The final contour map for the Northern iit
mine shows the building, driveway and stream crossing in detail.
$~~I~
M-~f4Ft
