LAFARGE
NORTH AMERICA
Construction Materials
Please refer to the attached "Well Monitoring Program" containing a map titled
"Duckworth Pit Monitoring Wells," which accurately depicts the location of the 4
monitoring wells on the Duckworth property.
7. "The applicant should submit a map reflecting the results of the model using the adjacent
lake as the discharge point for water removed from the pit. "
Please see the attached figures titled "Simulation of Mining Operation with Proposed
Mitigation -Summer Period" and "Simulation of Mining Operation with Proposed
Mitigation -Winter Period."
8. A full monitoring plan and mitigation plan, specifically outlining monitoring frequencies
and mitigation measures that will be incorporated, needs to be submitted with the permit
application and must be approved by the Division prior to approval of the permit.
Please see the "Well Monitoring Program" for specific guidelines regarding the
groundwater monitoring and potential mitigation measure for the Duckworth operation.
The Duckworth monitoring wells have been inspected, measured, and recorded on a
quarterly, or more frequent, basis since 2002. This monitoring will continue throughout
mining operations on a quarterly basis, and on a monthly basis during the initial
dewatering stage.
The depth of the domestic southern well is recorded with the Office of the State Engineer
(OSE) as 24 feet deep. Our recent monitoring indicates the lowest groundwater elevation
in the past 2 years on the Duckworth property was 6.47 feet. We do not anticipate
impacts to the 24-ft well.
9. The Division will estimate a cost to reclaim the site based on the information submitted
by Lafarge in the forthcoming adequacy response.
Lafazge will review the revised cost to reclaim estimate when the Division provides that
information.
10. Please provide documentation for the legal right to enter the easement associated with
the Smith & Emmons Ditch for purposes of mining and reclamation at the Duckworth Pit.
The previously mentioned agreement between Lafarge and the Smith & Emmons ditch
provides documentation for the legal right to enter the easement.
11.
