Mr. Jim Stover
• J.E. Stover & Associates
September 9, 1997
page 3
The results of the stability analyses indicate a minimum factor of saftey variable from 1.5 to 1.8
when the cohesion of the compacted fill was varied from 2,000 psf to 3,000 psf. The minimum
factor of safety varied substantially (1.3 to 1.8) when the native soil and bedrock profiles were
altered, indicating the stability to be controlled more by the geometry of the cross-section than
the strength of the materials. Data regarding the depth to native soil and bedrock was based on
the boring log information obtained during our previous studies. In general the depth to bedrock
used in the analysis was 10 to SO fee[ deeper than that indicated by the borings. Considering
the conservative approximation of both the depth to bedrock and the strength parameters of the
fill, we believe the results of the stability analyses indicate conservative saftey factors for the
constructed bench fill slope.
If we can provide further information, please contact our office.
Respectfully submitted,
• MAXIM TECHNOLOG r-INC:;;,,
~ ~ r+ , ,.
/~`. •~ ~,
David H.
