Letter of Objection & Conc~"Line Camp Gravel Pi[" (Application #: M-2001)
Thursday, March 01, 2001 -Page: 2
Re: Application #: M-2001-001
Line Camp Gravel Pit Application
Letter of Concern and Objection
This letter is on behalf of landowners adjacent to the proposed "Line
Camp Gravel Pit" (Application #: M-2001-001).
Mr. Jack Akin and Ms. Carol Stepe, reside on a working farm next to the
proposed Gravel Pit. Mr. Akin's family originally homesteaded the entire
part of the Dolores River valley which will be affected by the proposed
gravel pit.
We are respectfully submitting this Letter of Concern and Objection
because we believe that the proposed gravel pit will so adversely impact
the interests of the Public, as well as the adjacent landowners, that there
is no significant justification (economic or otherwise) for the Department
of Natural Resources to grant the application.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Our objection and concern centers around the following adverse
consequences to the State's natural resources if the DNR grants the
application: The plan for reclamation is not appropriate and is
inadequate because:
• The proposed gravel pit will adversely affect the primary domestic
aquifer in the Dolores River Valley
• The proposed gravel pit will adversely affect the eco-tourism of the
State of Colorado's "San Juan Skyway;"
• The proposed gravel pit will adversely affect existing wildlife;
• The proposed gravel pit will adversely affect adjacent farming;
• The proposed gravel pit will adversely affect air quality and violate
air quality standards;
• There is no economic justification for the proposed gravel pit;
Four States Aggregates, LLC 01 MAR 2001
Letter of Objection & Concern: Line Camp Pit FSA-LCP-D1-001
