The depicted eastern toe of the waste bench is less than ten feet from the thalweg of the
ephemeral drainage. Since water quality and disturbed area stability are important factors, please
provide slope gradient information, and whether sediment control is employed at that location.
The area north of the waste dump, downhill from the operation, was observed in 1997 to be
recently graded. It was explained that this area was made for use as a runoff/sediment berm or an
expanded waste dump area. Please show that area, and how it may change as operations grow
there.
The topsoil area was observed, as is depicted on the map. It is shown as a half acre in size.
Please provide information as to the stockpiled volume and its method of protection. Likewise
the overhead powerline appears to be in the correct location. However, a pole is shown in the
center of the topsoil area. Is this correct? How will material be added or removed without
causing powerpole instability? Are there lines or other electric structures between the last pole
and the shop or portal? Please show transformer locations, and ownership information.
The 1980 map shows a drill road within the permit uphill from the portal. The map also shows
drill holes. Observations made during 1997 show areas of uphill runoff diversion near the portal.
If these features are still present please show them, and if they are to be removed during
reclamation, ensure that is accounted for.
Carnation Mine
The new map boundaries conform to the boundaries on the earlier map (though the numbered
symbols for the comers contain an apparent error, which is not a problem). Many, but not all, of
the structures and features are shown on the new map.
Please provide a distance and bearing reference to a locatable point, as well as the full access road
to the county road. The road spur leading west toward the St. Jude permit area is not shown.
The north arrow is not labeled as to whether it is "true" or "magnetic" north, but comparison with
earlier maps indicates it is magnetic north. Please verify.
The shop building in the north end of the permit has no access to it. If it is to be used during
operations, please show a road. Also, there are numerous features once shown in the north end of
the permit, but now not included in the new map (old portal, ore dump and cribbing, low grade
ore pile). Have they been removed and the area reclaimed?
There was an extensive area in the northeast part of the permit, observed in 1997, where sediment
and runoff containment berms were being made. These are not depicted on the mining map but
should be. Likewise, there was a small sediment pond being excavated in the drainage west of the
permit area, which should be shown even though it is outside of the boundary.
It appears that near the portal the overhead electric line merges with the outline of the disturbed
pads and roads. Am I interpreting this correctly?
Please indicate the areas that are not disturbed within the permit, and extend the features of the
