The comments provided below should be responded to
in a timely manner in order to have all DMG concerns resolved prior to the initial decision date of
October 10, 1995.
It is evident that much thought and planning went into this application. The professioltally
prepared maps and exhibits were thorough and concise. The competent nature of the application
aided DMG staff in their review process.
MINE PLAN
During the pre-operation inspection of 8/8/95, DMG staff voiced concern that excessive
contributions of sediment may be delivered to Park Ditch by disturbed area drainage flowing north,
off the permit boundary. The operator stated that Park Ditch owners had installed a culvert to
ensure that slope movement not disrupt the supply of irrigation waters, therefore disturbed area
drainage from the north end of the disturbed area, could enter the ditch at only one location. If
disturbed area drainage will be routed to Park Ditch, DMG recommends that temporary sediment
control measures be installed at the boundary of the disturbed area where disturbed area drainage
is routed to Park Ditch. Temporary sediment control measures, such as silt fence or a row of
straw bales, entrenched 3 inches into the soil and staked down, will trap sediment and reduce the
velocity of overland flow. Such measures are usually maintained until revegetation has succeeded
sufficiently to control erosion. Please provide comment within Exhibit D -Mining Plan or Exhibit
G -Water Resources, stating whether disturbed area drainage will or will not be routed to Park
Ditch. If disturbed area drainage will not be routed to Park Ditch, please state how drainage will
be diverted. If disturbed area drainage will be routed to Park Ditch, please address the DMG's
recommendation for temporary sediment control specifically for Park Ditch.
