. maximize success during the cool, wet times of the year; seeding shall not be <br />done when the ground is frozen. <br />Dri11 seed using a drill implement equipped with the following preferable <br />features: <br />Multiple seed boxes -for different types of seed; <br />Depth bands - to allow seeding at the proper depth; <br />Seed box agitator - to promote seed mixing; <br />Seed box baffles - to aid in even seed distribution among rows; <br />Seed-metering device-to promote even seed distribution within rows; <br />Furrow openers - to permit proper seed placement from seed sprouts and <br />drag chains - to aid in seed coverage <br />Depth of seeding: Seed shall be placed to a depth of approximately .25 to .50 <br />inch. Drill row of spacing shall be set at approximately 6 to 8 inches. The drill <br />will then be towed across the seedbed to complete the planting operation. Drill <br />Mulch <br />Mulch shall be applied immediately after seeding to protect seed and to avoid disturbing <br />germinating seeds. Apply long-stem certified weed free hay mulch at a rate of 2 <br />tonsfacre and crimped into the soil to a depth of 3 to 4 inches. If possible, apply an <br />organic tackifier at the rate of 3,000 to 4,000 pounds per acre. <br />Monitoring & Weed Management <br />Newly vegetated areas shall be monitored periodically to detect problems early and allow <br />for appropriate corrective actions. <br />Once vegetation is established weed management techniques shall be employed and shall <br />include chemical and mechanical controls. Chemical controls shall be performed by <br />licensed applicators. <br />The Colorado Noxious Weed Act requires the control of the following eight noxious <br />weeds: (See appendix P for noxious weed identification plates.) <br />• Canada thistle, <br />• Musk thistle, <br />• Dalmation toadflax, <br />• Diffuse lrnapweed, <br />• Leafy spurge, <br />• Russian knapweed <br />• Spotted knapweed <br />• Yellow toadflax. <br />l~ <br />
