• Establishing Vegetative Cover <br />Seedbed Prepm~afion. <br />All site preparation shall be done on the contour (across the slope) to prevent soil erosion <br />from surface water runoff. <br />• Seedbed shall be manipulated so that it is firm enough so that the seed will be in <br />contact with the soil, and soil will not be easily washed or blown away, but loose <br />enough for the seed sprout to penetrate the soil. <br />• To alleviate soil compaction scarification, harrowing and raking may be used; <br />Soil Amendments <br />Soil amendments shall be used conservatively, and only where soils test has revealed a <br />deficiency in certain nutrients. Where fertilizer use is appropriate, a low level or slow <br />release fertilizer is suggested for the growth of native plants. Organic fertilizers are best, <br />such as compost, biosolids (sewage sludge), mushroom compost, animal waste (manure). <br />Spread 3 cy/1000 SF of compost. Incorporate compost by disking or roto-tilling into the <br />top 4 to 6 inches of soil. Obtain a uniform mixture with no pockets of soil or amendment <br />remaining. <br />Seeding Procedures <br />• The following seed mix shall be used, as specified by the natural Resource <br />Conservation Service: <br /> of PLS Seeding Rate <br />Species Variety PLS/Acre Species in (per species per <br /> Mixture acre) <br />Western <br /> <br />Wheat ass Rosanna 16 40 6.4 <br />Sideoats Grama Vaughn, El 9 20 1.8 <br /> Reno, Niner <br />Blue Grama Hachita, 3 15 .45 <br /> Lovin on <br />Green Lodorm 1~0 10 1 <br />Needle ass <br />Indian Ricegrass Paloma, 12.5 5 .625 <br /> Rimrock <br />Little bluestem Pasture 7 5 .35 <br />Bi Bluestem Kaw, Pawnee 11 5 .55 <br />• Seed selection: Certified Seed with blue tags attached to the seed bag shall be <br />supplied where a named variety is specified. The vendor shall indicate on the bid <br />whether certified or common seed is being offered, as well as the origin of the <br />seed. The blue tags which are removed to mix the seed shall be given to the <br />Mining Supervisor. In addition, mix tags showing the weighted averages of the <br />ingredients shall be attached to each bag. <br />• Time of seeding: Seeding shall immediately follow final grading and topsoil <br />placement. If possible, seeding shall occur in eazly spring and late fall to <br />
