• Based on on-site observation, the dominate vegetation consists of the following:
Outcrop to be mined:
75%-85% Mountain Mahogany (Cercocarpus montanus)
~%-10% Yucca (Yucca glauca)
Meadow areas surrounding the outcrop:
90% Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum)
Transitional areas between outcrop and meadow areas:
80%-85% Needle-and-thread (Stipa neomexicana)
5%-l0% Yucca (Yucca glauca)
The low-lying area to the west of the site included Sanbaz Willow (salix exigua),
Cottonwood (populus augustafolia) and miscellaneous grasses. Other plants observed
onsite included a variety of forbes and grasses, including some invasive plants such as
purple loosestrife. Several of these could not be identified because of the lack of flower
heads at the time of observation.
The surface soil material apneazs rocky, and is described as being shallow, up to 6 inches
thick, with rapid permeability. To date soil samp]es have not been analyzed for available
• nutrients related to re-vegetation measures that will be needed to re-establish vegetation.
Sub-Surface soils include stony sandy loam, approximately 5 inches thick.
Pre-mining operations will include the removal of the surface material to be stockpiled
separately from the overburden that will be removed and processed for landscape rock
mulch materials. Additional information provided below.
A perimeter berm will be created along the boundary of the quarry site on the west side
adjacent to the wetland and wetland buffer. On the east side, overburden will be
stockpiled into 6' berms, which will reduce in visual impacts and improve sound
attenuation.
Stabilization practices and re-vegetation procedures described below will be performed
on all disturbed materials: Wetland berms, stockpiles, overburden berms, and post-
mining cells that are being reclaimed.
Reclamation Plan Objectives
• To prescribe concun-ent grading, contouring, drainage, and re-vegetation as parts
of a phased mining operation.
• To establish a post mining use that blends with the surrounding landscape,
available for grazing, hunting and habitat creation.
• To consider the temporary nature of the post mining environment given the
• imminent future of a reservoir that will inundate the site.
• To establish landscape recovery that is self-sustaining and persistent.
