One continuous pit will result from
gravel extraction operations, Sufficient land on the edge
of the property will not be excavated to permit grading 2:1
slopes on the sides of the pit.
Topsoil will be stripped to a depth of from 24-30 inches
on the Ouray soil and 6-12 inches on the San Isabel soil.
Topsoil will be stored to the east of the anticipated eight-
acre pit area. It will be compacted for stabilization and
seeded by hand with small grain cereal, either barley or wheat,
at a rate of 60-40 pounds per acre. When a sufficient area
of the pit has been excavated and when backfilling and grading
of that portion of the pit will not interfere with future
mining, overburden will be backfilled and graded to 2:1 slopes.
Approximately 12-18 inches of topsoil will be spread on the
graded slope after adequate compaction to assure stabilization
against slippage and piping.
Revegetation of disturbed areas will consider the follow-
ing principal factors:
(1) No standing water in depressions of reclaimed areas.
(2) Greater water availability for vegetation on the
floor of the depression is expected.
E-1
