The geotechnical hole TH-4 was then completed as a
monitoring well, using 2 inch PVC, and was numbered OW-4L. TH-4
was drilled to 75 feet through mostly clays and sandy clays, but
PVC pipe was installed to approximately 22 feet only with the
remainder of the hole abandoned (see attached well logs).
OW-4L was used as a shallow groundwater monitoring well from 1984
to late 1989 when it was found to have been destroyed. The well
was located at the edge of a cultivated and irrigated field which
was used for grazing of livestock.
In October 1989, the well could not be located and was presumed
to have been destroyed. Apparently, either through cultivation
and/or grazing, the PVC pipe was broken off below ground surface
and the surface reworked so that there was no evidence of the
well. A search has been made on several occasions, including
with the help of the rancher, without identifying the well.
PPdlal,;;-~1~1,~~
