Bestway Paving Company
112 Permit Application
' EXHIBIT E, RECLAMATION PLAN SUMMARY
A detailed reclamation plan is in preparation and is nearly completed.
The goal of the reclamation plan is to return the site to an aesthetically
' pleasing and agriculturally productive condition as soon as possible after
mining. The following paragraphs summarize the contents of that reclama-
tion plan.
Portions of the site which were mined prior to occupancy by Bestway
Paving Company and which now contain the crushing operation, asphalt batch
plant, shop and office buildings, and material stockpiles will be kept
as a plant site even after all gravel materials have been removed from
' the site. Past experience has demonstrated that it is economically feasible
to import gravel materials from adjacent mining operations and. to stockpile
' t
( and process those materials in the present operating area. The rest of
' the site, however, will be reclaimed to agricultural uses, that is,
primarily for the growing of corn and/or alfalfa. The portion of the
' site intended for agricultural uses will be reclaimed so that a minimum
of three feet of topsoil and overburden, in combination, will overlie the
1 water table. The final site configuration has been designed around the
elevation constraints imposed by the water table. A material shortage
will exist when this is done, resulting in a pond of approximately fourteen
acres. The perimeter pit slopes will be graded to result in slopes
no steeper than 3: 1 (horizontal to vertical) . The slopes immediately
1 surrounding the pond to a height of five feet above the water surface to
1 a depth of ten feet below the water surface will also be graded no steeper
than 3: 1 . The berms constructed around the perimeter of the site will be
' vegetated using native species of trees, shrubs, and grasses.
1
