Bestway Paving Company
112 Permit Application
EXHIBIT D, MINING PLAN - SUMMARY
A few details remain to be worked out concerning the mining plan, so
it would be premature to present a detailed discussion of the mining phase
' of the overall operation. In general , the mining operation can be described
as an open-pit gravel operation using standard earthmoving equipment,
including loaders, bulldozers, and scrapers. The operation has been
designed to permit single handling of nearly all materials at the site.
' Initially, topsoil and overburden materials will be stockpiled or used
for construction of landscape berms. The gravel above the water table
will be mined from a cell of as-yet-unknown dimensions until the water
' table is reached. A cutoff trench will be excavated to the underlying
claystone bedrock, and dewatering will commence. The remaining gravel
t
E will be mined to bedrock, and while the excavation is still dewatered,
' overburden will be replaced, covered by,sufficient topsoil to allow .
agricultural use of the area. Individual mining phase areas will consist
' of a number of such cells. As indicated, a detailed and comprehensive
mining plan is nearly completed and will be submitted as soon as it is
' available.
1
1
1
