8/82 <br />Sarcillo series. <br />• The Sarcillo series consists of shallow, well drained soils on <br />ridge tops. These soils formed in residuum and colluvium derived <br />dominantly from sandstone. Slope is 3 to 15 percent. Average annual <br />precipitation is 15 to IS inches, and average annual air temperature <br />is 47 to 52 degrees F. <br />These soils are clayey-skeletal, mixed mesic Lithic Ustollic <br />Haplargids. <br />Typical pedon of a Sarcillo loam in an area of Louviers-Sarcillo- <br />Noden complex, 3 to 25 percent slopes, about 1,100 feet south and <br />2,500 feet west of the northeast career of sec. 27, T. 33 S., R. 65 <br />W. <br />A--O to 5 inches; brown (7.5YR 5/4) loam, dark brawn (7.5YR 4/4) <br />moist; weak fine granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, <br />slightly sticky and nonelastic; neutral; clear smooth boundary. <br />Titl--5 to 3 inches; light brown (7.5YR 6/2) clay loam, dark brawn <br />(7.5YR 4/2> moist; strong fine subangular blocky structure; hard, <br />firm, sticky and plastic; thin continuous clay films on pod faces; <br />mildly ali;alir~e; abrupt smooth boundary. <br />Bt2--8 to 13 inches; light brown (7.5YR 6/4) clay, brawn (7.5YR <br />5/4) moist; strong medium prismatic structure parting to moderate <br />rnediurn angular- blocks; extremely hard, very firm, sticky and plastic; <br />th~ir~ continuous clay films on pod faces; many slickensides; mildly <br />alkaline; abrupt wavy boundary. <br />~t3--13 to 16 inches; pale brown (10YR 6/3) clay, brown (lOYR <br />5/3) moist; strong medium angular blocky structure; extremely hard, <br />very firm, very sticky and very plastic; thin patchy clay films or. pod <br />• faces; few slickensides; calcareous; moderately alkaline; abrupt <br />smooth boundary. <br />R--16 to b0 inches; hard fractured sandstone. <br />Depth to bedrock and thickness of the solum are 10 to 20 inches. <br />The control section is 0 to 20 percent rock fragments. Lime is at a <br />depth of 10 to 20 inches. A horizon: Reaction is neutral or mildly <br />alkaline. G horizons: Texture is clay loam or clay. Clay content is <br />35 to 50 percent."Reaction is mildly alkaline or moderately alkaline." <br /> <br />
