8/82 <br />Romt~o series. <br />The Rombo series consists of moderately deep, well drained soils <br />on mountainsides and side slopes. These sails formed in calluvium and <br />residuum derived dominantly from siltstone, shale and basalt. Slope <br />is 25 to 50 percent. Average annual precipitation is 16 to 22 inches, <br />ar~d average arinua a i r- temper-atur-e i s 42 to 47 degrees F. <br />These soils are fine, mixed, frigid Typic Ustochrepts. <br />Typical pedon of a Rombo channery silty clay loam in an area of <br />Midnight-Rombo complex, 35 to 50 percent slopes, about 1.5 miles north <br />of Colorado state line ire Coloraw Canyon, T. 35 S., R. 65 W. <br />A--r7 to 4 inches; grayish brown (2.5V 5/2> channery silty clay <br />loam, ver- dart; grayish t~r-own (2.5Y 3/2) moist; moderate very fine <br />granular structure; hard, firm, sticky and plastic; 15 percent <br />channery, 15 percent flagstones; mildly alkaline; clear smooth <br />boundary. <br />Pw--4 to 24 inches; grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2> channery silty clay <br />loam, ~7ark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) moist; moderate fine subangular <br />blocky structure; very hard, very firm, sticky and plastic; 15 percent <br />channery, 10 percent shale fragments; neutral; clear smooth boundary. <br />C~k--~4 to 34 inches; gray (2.5Y 5/0) silty clay loam, dark gray <br />(2.5Y 5/ moist and crushed; weak fine subangular blocky structure; <br />very hard, firm, sticky and plastic; few calcium carbonate spots on <br />shale fragments; 35 perce shale fragments; neutral; clear smooth <br />boundary. <br />Cr•--34 to 60 inches; soft siltstone and shale. <br />Depth to bedrock and thickness of the solum are 20 to 40 inches. <br />The solum is 20 to 40 inches ttrick. The control section is 10 to 3U <br />• percent roc fragments. Texture is silty clay loam or clay loam. Clay <br />content is ~;5 to percent. Reaction is neutral or mildly alkalir~e.^ <br />
