No
coal was extracted from the mine this year. Maintenance operations continued at the mine
throughout the yeaz and included maintenance of the surface water control system
(sediment ponds, conveyance and diversion ditches), ground and surface water monitoring
in compliance with CDMG mining and reclamation permit C-92-080, maintenance of the
road system, and maintenance of the surface facilities. During 1999, approximately eight
acres of the mine were topsoiled on the pemianenetly reclaimed spoils area. Completion
of the topsoiling and revegetation is anticipated in 2000. Additionally, backfilling began in
the north and south pit azeas of the coal mine.
SWMP FACILITY INSPECTIONS (1999)
The surface water control plan for the facility includes three conveyance ditches which
direct surface waters from the disturbed azea into one of two sediment ponds (dischazge
points 001 and 002). ReconSguration of the Carbon Junction Canyon drainage channel
was began after approval by CDMG. The purpose of the reconfiguration was to
reconstruct the channel to the approved post-mining conSguration. The sediment ponds
control all surface water flow from the drainage.
The sediment ponds are permitted under the CDPS permit for this facility. No discharges
from the sediment ponds were reported during 1999. As required by CDMG regulation,
the sediment ponds were inspected quarterly during 1999. No maintenance concerns were
identiSed during these inspections.
