If they were to fill up, there is
potential for an ex-filtration because they are not lined. A certified engineer checks
all the detention ponds and the dams on a quarterly basis. Nineteen monitoring
wells have been placed around the property for the purpose of monitoring the water
quantity and quality inside the mines. These wells are not located in positions that
would determine seepage from the sediment detention ponds. Four piezometer wclls
are located on hillsides with spoil piles to determine slope conditions. The
groundwater wells and piezometers are checked on a quarterly basis.
16. Flow measurement present? Only on discharge points OOl and 002
[f so, please describe the device and outfall.
Discharge point 001 is a 4-inch pipe with a turbine meter to measure discharge. The
outfall is piped onto riprap that leads to the Colorado River.
Discharge point 002 is a 6-inch pipe with a disk meter to measure discharge. The
outfall is discharged onto riprap that leads to the Colorado River.
The CDPHE recommends the operator get the meters calibrated on a regular basis.
The last time the meters were calibrated could not be determined but was at least
one year ago.
l7.
