2.0 METHODOLOGY
2.1 DISPOSAL AREA
In the disposal area, woody plant density was measured by
counting rooted stems occurring within rectangular 1 meter by .50
meter plots. A 100--foot tape was stretched in randomly selected
directions within the oak-shrub community and the .50 m2 plots
were read at the ten-foot intervals along the tape. South and
southeast facing slopes were sampled to most closely approximate
the planned final contour aspect of the disposal area.
2.2 WILLOW CARR REFERENCE AREA
A Willow Carr reference area sampling site was also
selected to most accurately depict the areas to be revegetated
using this standard. These areas are generally elevated above
the Purgatoire River with only narrow hands along the river
directly influenced by its moisture. For this reason, the old
Willow Carr reference area was selected with willow dominated
wetland vegetation along the river and grasslands on the drier
sites above. Transects cuere randomly located within the area,
but were oriented in a north-south direction so they would cross
both vegetation zones.
Cover was measured by recording hits at evezy foot along a
100-foot tape. Hits were recorded by species, litter, or bare
ground. Production was sampled along these same transects in 1/4
m2 plots that were clipped h;~ species. Woody plant density was
measured in the same manner described for the disposal area.
