e <br />_ ~ ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />CHAPTER E: ENVII20NMENTAL RESOURCES/ARCHAEOLOGICAL, CULTURAL <br />AND HISTORICAL RESOURCES <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br />The entire leasehold (mine plan azea) will have had a pedestrian cultural <br />resources inventory conducted by the end of 1980. All of the surface overlying the <br />underground workings has been surveyed for the first 5 yeazs of mining except an <br />azeal 300-foot X 800-foot ventilation entry located in T2N, R93W, Section 33. This <br />ventilation entry, 15 feet high, will be driven from the g seam within the mine to <br />open on a steep hillside. Timbers and structural steel will prevent subsidence. The <br />entry location is included in the cultural resources study to be completed in 1980. <br />• Phase II of the cultureal resources work will consist of enough excava- <br />tion work at each site to determine whether it is eligible for nomination to the <br />National Historic Register of Places. Ia addition, the one cultural site which would <br />be impacted by construction or surface facilities will be excavated in 1980 or 1981. <br />Phase III of the cultural resources work will depend upon regulations which are <br />written in place of the remanded OSM regulations regazding °eligible for listing on <br />the National Historic Register". <br />The Rienau No. 2 (G-Seam) Mine lease has already been cleazed for <br />cultural resources in the course of obtaining the state permit and the interim OSM <br />approval to mine. <br />The following sections describe the cultural resource inventory con- <br />ducted for the Northern No. 1 (FF-Seam) Mine, the Northern No. 2 (P-Seam) Mine, <br />and the Northern No. 3 (J-Seam) Mine. <br />See Section 8.0 Found on Page E-125. <br />E-1 <br />
