e <br />ESPEY, HUSTON BASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />1.1 OBJECTIVES <br />Between June 22, 1979 and September 26, 1979, a cultural resource <br />inventory of approximately 3,480 acres of land azound the Meeker Area Mines in Rio <br />Blanco County, Colorado was conducted by Pioneer Archaeological Consultants <br />(Fig. E-1). <br />The inventory was completed at the request of Northern Coal Company <br />in order to obtain a permit to mine and perform other actions related to coal mining <br />on five lease areas (C-1,545, C-28358, C-1546, C-0126997 and C-0126999)• This <br />final report is submitted by Jane L. Anderson in compliance with Executive <br />Order 11593, the Antiquities Act of 1906, and the National Historic Preservation <br />Act of 1966. <br />• The inventory was completed under the authorization of U.S. Depazt- <br />meat of the Interior Antiquities Permit No.79-CO-034 and State of Colorado <br />Antiquities Permit No. 79-4. <br />Seven sites, thirteen localities, and six isolated finds were found during <br />the survey. Each of these will be described and recommendations will be made <br />below. <br />1.2 STUDY AREA <br />The azea surveyed is located south of Ninemile Gap in the Curtis Creek <br />and Aichers Draw drainage systems (Figs.
