Cus>Eerz Cor~ntty Reflional Plar-Zninfl C
February 17, 2000
Custer County Planning Commission
Dick Downey Chairman
Westcliffe, CO 81252
At their regular meeting February 9, 2000 the Regional Planning Commission took the following
actions.
Moved to support the request for re-zoning Centennial Ranch.
Since all of the parcels in this sub-division are now at least 35 acres in size and the property
owners are desirous that the entire sub-division stay that way, they would like to insure that
sub-dividing below 35-acres does not occur. The properties are now in a 5-acre zone which
which means the possibility exists that a deae{oper could divide lots dmvn to 5 acres in size. The
properties are in a dry, remote area where water supplies are limited.
Keeping these parcels at least 35 acres also foftows the County's Master Plan which urges no
further development of smaller acreage's.
Voted to support the request for a Special Lise Permit Modification for Trinity Ranch
3rttl thfdioiy i ro5~ IS'iivcy.
This 920-acre complex near Wetmore had previously operated as a youth camp and reheat. The
property is presently owned by the Episcopal Church Diocese. Since the Diocese is no longer
interested in operating a youth camp in this azea, a smaller group of Episcopal Churches in
southern Colorado proposes to retain 100 acres of the property and sell the remaining 820 acres
to the Holy Cross Abbey. The Episcopal Churches intend to operate a ranch type youth camp.
The No1y Cross Abbey intends to use the property as a retreat and visitors' center. A number of
additions and improvements are planned by the Abbey including an emergency medical clinic, a
monastery, chapel and visitors' center.
Water issues appear to have been resolved satisfactorily and with agre.emerrt of both parties.
Post Office Box 474 Westcliffe, Colorado 81 "152
