William & Kristi Lozier
Conger Harvesting Area
2

April 22, 1998
File No. M-98-022
within DMG jurisdiction. The application includes a geologic study conducted by
Environmental Assessment Association which indicates that slope stability may be
enhanced by the proposed mining operation. DMG is reviewing the application, is familiar
with the site, but has not identified adequacy issues relating to slope stability.
Your stated concern that the proposed operation may continue for years is correct. The
Mine Plan indicates that the life of mine is ten (10) years. An approved operation may
continue as long as the operation remains in compliance with the Act, Rules and permit
conditions.
Please contact me at the DMG Durango Office, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101,
Durango, CO 81301, phone (9701 247-5469, if you have any questions or require
additional information.
Sincerely, ,
Wallace H. Erickson
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: William P. Balaz, Balaz & Associates
