Mining operations
in the subsequent phase will not start until reclamation of the
previous phase is completed. As an example: when Phase 1 mining
is complete and the mining operations are located in Phase 2, min-
ing operations in Phase 3 will not start until Phase 1 reclamation
is completed and released by the MLRD.
The maximum acreage disturbed at any one time will be when Phase 1
is complete and Phase 2 is being mined. The total acreage being
21.0 acres. Of this total, there would be: 3 acres of manor dis-
turbance requiring movement of approximately 5000 yards of mate-
. rial less than 200 feet, final shaping, and spreading of topsoil
(if any); 6 acres of moderate disturbance requiring the final
preparation immediately prior to planting and seeding; 10 acres of
minor disturbance requiring plant and seeding; and the remaining 2
acres as buffers. The forward edge of the mining operation will
consist of a cliff face. The final forward face of Phases 2, 4
and 6 will be left as a vertical face which is typical of the sur-
rounding topography.
A diversion channel above the active mining area should not be
needed because the slope naturally tapers to the ephemeral streams
and not to the mining face. In addition, the undisturbed surface
of this area is solid rock with little or no topsoil. Diversions
above the active mining area would be difficult to install.
•
