Power lines
Because Colowyo utilizes many electric-powered mining machines, a network
of electric power lines is located in the permit area to supply
electricity to the equipment. The locations of the Colowyo power lines
are shown on the Existing Structures - South Map (Map 22).
Colowyo has constructed the power lines within the permit area for
compliance with the raptor-proof power pole requirements of REA Bulletin
61-10, Protection of Bald and Golden Eagles for Power Lines.
Five major pieces of equipment at Colowyo, the three draglines, and two
shovels are powered by electricity. Therefore, during the life of the
mine it is necessary to periodically move the existing power line loop
to accommodate the advancement of the pit. The location of the
anticipated power line loop changes are also shown on Map 22, Existing
Structures - South.
Haul and Access Roads
The haul roads and access road utilized at the Colowyo operation are
shown on the Existing Structures - North Map (Map 21) and the Existing
Structures - South Map (Map 22).
