BOX 1773 ~ DURANGO, COLORADO 81301 ~ PHONE 247-1303
June 23, 1987
Colorado Mined Land ~~~ ~ ~ e E
Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Building ~~L 81987
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Co 80203 MINED LAND
Attention: Patricia Martinek CiECLAMATION DIVISION
Dear Pat:
As r~aquested by your letter dated June 2, 1987, the following
adequacy items are addressed in the order of presentation therein.
Exhibit C - Mining Plan Ma
The Mining Plan Map has been corrected to include items 2, 3,
and ~4. Four copies of the revised map dated June 14, 1987 are
enclosed herewith. As discussed with you, items 1 and 5 are
provided for in items 1 and 2 of Exhibit E, following.
Exhibit D - Mining Plan
1. As stated in the mining plan, the pit run sand and gravel
will be transported to the stockpile and processing area shown in
Exhibit C. The sand and gravel materials will be processed in
this area by screening, crushing, washing and classifying. water
used in the washing operations is discharged through a pipe to the
settling pond, shown on Exhibit C, where the water percolates
through the embankment returning to the river system clear and
free of sediment. No direct discharge of wash water is made to
the river, whether by overflow or otherwise. Additionally,
materials will be processed through a concrete batch plant where
certain chemicals, i.e. air entraining and water reducing admix-
tures will be incorporated in the concrete. None of these
chemical admixtures are discharged to the river, thus alleviating
any disturbance to the hydrologic balance of the river.
2. Sandco does intend to isolate the river from the work
areas through the use of berms and dikes. These dikes would serve
to confine any muddy water to the work area and also to tempor-
arily confine the river to a single channel during excavation
operations. This channel would not be of a dimension so res-
tricted to cause erosion and bank instability. However, as stated
in E~:hibit E, paragraph No. 4, Sandco does intend to armor any
areas of streambank where actual erosion is occurring or pending.
