December 23, 1980
Page 2
Range t•7anagement Plan
•
The permanent overburden dump has areas which
form "natural" small valleys and also has a ridge
running in a north-easterly direction.
2. The steepness of the reclaimed slopes will range from
an average of approximately 3:1 to S:l.and flatter.
An overall slope of approximately 9:1 is expected.
3. The expected ranges in elevation on the reclaimed
surfaces are from 7300 feet to 7875 feet.
II CLIDSATIC FEATURES
1. Average annual precipitation in the Hayden Gulch area
is approximately 16 in (41 cm). This precipitation is
evenly distributed except that April, tiay, and October
receive slightly higher amounts of precipitation.
2. The mean date of spring in Hayden is May 27 and the
mean date of fall is August 26. Dates for the mine
area are slightly later for spring and earlier for
fall because the mine is approximately 1,000 feet
• higher than Hayden.
3. The average wind velocity is from 7-10 mph and is
normally from the southwest.
III PLANT SPECIES COMPOSITION AND USE FACTOR
1. PLANT SPECIES AND USE FACTOR
Vegetation expected after reclamation may consist
of the following forage species.. The projected proper
use factor by cattle is given for each species (Table 1).
IV TOTAL FORAGE PRODUCTION
Forage production is presently difficult to estimate
for reclaimed land. Using established reference areas as
a guide of biomass production it appears that a goal of
approximately 750 lbs/acre of air dried grass and forbs
will be needed to satisfy revegtation requirements. Of
this total not all will be useable by grazing animals.
Shrub production is not included. in the 750 lbs/acre
estimate.
•
