<br />will restore the approximate original contours of affected areas to the extent possible. <br />After the area has been graded, topsoil will be redistributed over the entire disturbed <br />area from which it was salvaged. Seeding will occur immediately after the topsoil has <br />been replaced along the corridor. Site-specific soil stabilization (e.g., on steep slopes) <br />will include mulching to minimize erosion until vegetation has become established. <br />Annual or noxious weeds will be controlled as directed by and in a manner approved <br />by the BLM, as appropriate. <br />E.2 Reclamation Methods <br />E.2.1 Well Field Reclamation Methods <br />The primary reclamation methods for the well field are described in Section 5.1 of the <br />Reclamation Plan. A summary is provided below. <br />In addition to successful permitting of this 112 Permit Application, the Reclamation <br />Plan must also be approved by the BLM. The BLM has requirements similar to those of <br />the CDMG that must be met. The post-mining land use for the public land portions of <br />the Yankee Gulch Project (i.e., the Piceance Site) will be dictated by BLM. It is BLM's <br />goal to return the affected lands to their original use, with the primary emphasis on <br />wildlife habitat and rangeland. <br />Gradine Grading is addressed in Sections 4.7.4 and 5.1.1 of the Reclamation Plan. <br />Grading operations will allow areas to be restored to approximate original topography <br />to the extent possible. Fill materials (located on site) will be graded back into affected <br />areas. <br />To the extent possible, final surface manipulations during grading operations will <br />follow original topographic contours in an effort to minimize surface or subsurface <br />erosion or instability. <br />Topsoiling Topsoiling is addressed in Section 4.3 of the Reclamation Plan. Soils used <br />for reconstruction of affected lands will be direct hauled from salvage areas and <br />immediately redistributed or "live handled" whenever this is physically possible (Water <br />and Earth 1998). Soil salvage areas may be located nearby (e.g., at drill pads) or may be <br />located some distance away (e.g., near the initial processing facility area). Efforts will <br />be made to separate topsoil associated with specific vegetation types. <br />Reconstructed soil thickness for a given area will be determined by the original volume <br />of suitable soil available for salvage, the type of reconstruction material used, and the <br />growth requirements of the vegetation community to be established (Water and Earth <br />1998). Topdressing for a particular vegetation community type will be redistributed <br />across the entire area for which it will serve as a growth medium. Topdressing <br />materials will be redistributed at variable depths within a given vegetation community. <br />E-3 <br />
