of that specific mining panel. Roads that would not be needed to serve subsequent
development within the mining panel would be similarly regraded and stabilized.
Table E-1 Disturbed Area Requiring Reclamation for the Six Mining Panels
Mining Panel Designation
( ear mined) Mining Panel
Area (acres) Disturbance Requiring
Reclamation (acres)
0 - 5 ear anel 160 75
5 - 10 ear anel 209 98
10 -15 ear anel 172 81
15 - 20 ear anel 167 78
20 - 25 ear anel 125 59
25 - 30 ear anel 197 92
Total 1,030 483
Final reclamation of each mining panel will be accomplished once mining activities in
the panel have been concluded and mining has been initiated in the next panel. In
general, at any one time, one mining panel will be active, one mining panel will be
undergoing reclamation/revegetation (i.e., after year 5), and, ultimately, other mining
panels will have been reclaimed and in progressive stages of succession and habitat
maturation. A timetable for mining, reclamation, and restoration of useable habitat is
included in Exhibit F, and these stages are related to the particular mining panels on the
map provided in that exhibit.
E.1.2 Reclamation of Facilities and Structures
Individual solution mining wells will be plugged and abandoned in accordance with
BLM requirements as they are retired. Other than such surface facilities that are related
specifically to the operation of individual solution mining wells and whose retirement
and reclamation will be staged throughout the life of the project, most surface facilities
at both the Piceance Site and the Parachute Site would function indefinitely.
Reclamation of these facilities would be consistent with applicable requirements in
effect at the time. In general, surface facilities that are to be closed or abandoned would
be cleared of all equipment and debris, and surface excavations (including evaporation
ponds) would be reclaimed.
E.1.3 Pipeline Corridor Reclamation
Reclamation of the pipeline corridor is described in detail in Attachment 1 of this
exhibit. Reclamation of the pipeline corridor will occur immediately following
installation of the product and return water pipelines. In general, excavated product
and return water pipeline trenches will be backfilled with native earthen materials
temporarily placed adjacent to the trenches during pipeline installation.
