CO 80220
Dear Sandi:
Ref: NPDES Discharge Point 011, Under Trapper Mine's
NPDES Permit CO-0032115
Based on analyses received November 28, 1988, total suspen
NPDES discharge point 011 was 230 mg/1 on October 25, 1988
due to precipitation, but was due to baseline groundwater
from the sediment control facilities.
sc t.w.; , _ ,.
GF.C `~ 1°~3
• n~ -. ,~,
1Ci: i. r~.:.: ~. Between the
last sediment control pond and the NPDES sampling flume, a continuous ground-
water flow originates. There was no surface water discharge from the Pyeatt
ponds and the structures were essentially dry.
At the time the grab sample was taken, cattle were grazing and watering in the
channel above and below the NPDES sample point. Thus, the elevated TSS value
was due to livestock grazing and not mining activities.
Trapper intends to move the NPDES sample point or fence the 300 feet stream
segment to exclude livestock grazing. These changes will be made in 1989. If
a decision is made to move the NPDES sample point, a revision will be filed
with the Water Quality Control Division.
Best regards,
~~~
H.
