Soil Descriptions 3 <br />Mapping Unit 26C (cont.) <br />i <br />B2 or subsoil. The B2 horizon is dark grayish brown loam. with weak <br />subangular blocky structure. The substrata is a loam and sandstone <br />is present at depths below 40 inches. <br />Surface runoff is medium to rapid on these soils and erosion hazard <br />is moderate. <br />Capability VIe, non_irrigated <br />Estimated pH: 6.6 - 7.3 <br />Conductivity mmhos~cm: 0 <br />Mapping Unit SOF - Cochetopa loam, 25 to 65 percent slopes., <br />T.his.js a deep, well drained soil on moderately steep to very steep <br />mountain.sidesiopes at elevations of 7000 to 8500 feet. It formed <br />in material weathered from shale. The average annual precipitation <br />is about 18 to 22 inches, the average annual air temperature is <br />about 38 to 40 degrees F., and the frost-free season is about 50 to <br />75 days. <br />Small areas of Routt loam and Unnamed (2) loam are included in this <br />mapping unit. <br />Typically the surface layer is dark grayish brown loam about 18 <br />• inches thick. The subsoil is yellowish brown clay loam about 29 <br />inches thick. The substratum is yellowish brown clay loam to 60 <br />inches or more. <br />Permeability is slow. Available water capacity is high. Effective <br />rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Average annual precipitation is 15 to 20 .inches, <br />average annual air temperature is 40 to 45 degrees F., and the frost- <br />free season is 60 to 95 days. Torriorthents make up 50. percent and <br />Rock outcrop makes up 40. percent of this unit. Small areas of <br />Unnamed (62) sandy loam and Lymanson loam make up the remaining 10 <br />percent. <br />Torriorthents are shallow to deep, well drained soils that formed <br />in material weathered from shale and sandstone.
