These soil sampling locations
reflect typical soil horizons encountered on the western end of the river alluvium deposit which
is proposed for mining. The sampling sites are located in the SW4 Section 12, T18S, R72W,
Fremont County, Colorado.
Sample Areas were mapped and compared to US Dept. of Agriculture Soil Survey of Fremont
County Area, Colorado, delineated as soil unit #50 as shown on Sheet No. 18 of the Survey.
The dominant soil type, Kim Loam, constituted 100% of the of the soil type within this map unit.
Block 1 samples were taken along a NE-SW trending transect in an agricultural field which has
been flood irrigated by ditching at times in the past. However, the field does not show signs of
recent production such a hay cropping. It appears that the field has been irrigated to a limited
extent and grazed by livestock. Slopes were 0.5-1%, average vegetative cover 45%, course
fragment cover 15%, bare ground 20%, per cent litter ]0%, 10% stones and small rocks, aspect
southeast. Block 1 soils consistent dark brown silty loam to 18" depth with 10% or less rock
pebbles less than '/." in more Northerly locations (sample 1-1, 1-2), soils sampled to 18" depths,
central location soils (sample 1-3)consistent to 12" depth, dark brown silty loam with course
aggregate <10%, below 12" rocky aggregate 1-2". Southern end of block brown silty loam thins
to 6"-]0" depth, <]0% course pebbles with 1-2" rocky aggregate below.
