DESIGN REVIEW
Design of the Sediment Pond Embankments was completed by Leonard
Rice Consulting Water Engineers, Inc., Chen & Associates and Dave
Gossett. Specific portions of the design were completed by each
group or individual. Hydrologic investigations required for
the design and placement of each embankment was completed by
Leonard Rice, Consulting Water Engineers, Inc. Chen & Associates
determined the soils and geologic condition at each site selected
by Leonard Rice. Determination of. each embankment's specific
design and constructed dimensions were then completed. Dave Gossett
completed construction drawings for each embankment utilizing these
designed dimensions.
ACZ INC. utilized these design parameters in completion of this
project. Slight additional adjustments were made to the design
dimensions to ensure that the structures would serve the purpose
for which they were designed and be built in accordance with
Colorado Regulations. These changes consisted of the following
items:
• Utilization of overburden material from the pit
as fill material
~ Excavation of a portion of the soil material
upstream from embankments "B" and "C" to
ensure adequate sediment storage volume
Fill material for the embankment was required to be compacted to
95% Standard Proctor density. Placement of fill material in lifts
not to exceed 8 inches and compacted by a sheep's foot roller or
equivalent was required.
2
A ~ ~ tHC.
