•
Rule 2: Permits
It is estimated that approximately 1.9 feet of topsoil and subsoil (an average of 1.6 feet stripped
plus a 20 percent swell factor) will be evenly respread along reclaimed access roads, haul roads,
and the rail spur. This assumes that no more than 2.0 feet of topsoil and subsoil will be stripped
along road and railroad rights-of-way. It is also assumed that soil stripped from roadways will
be reused in approximately the same location. Therefore, less than a 1.9 foot thickness will be
available along sections of roadway above the valley floor.
Revegetation Plan
affected area, and capable of supporting the planned post-mining land uses on~clisturbed areas
b~~ ~~~
All disturbed sites identified in the reclamation plan will be reclaimed and revegetated according ~ M fd
to Rules 2.05.4 and 4.15. The goal of reclamation is to establish a diverse, effective, and Posk
permanent vegetation cover of the same seasonal variety and utility as the vegetation native to the i s Sa""~
For the surface mine area, a change of land use following mining is proposed. The change will
increase and improve rangeland habitiat for livestock grazing. The prompt establishment of a
protective plant cover and recovery of productivity levels compatible with the proposed post-
mining land uses will be accomplished by implementing the reclamation plan described herein.
The revegetation plan has been designed to meet short- and long-term reclamation goals by: 1.
controlling erosion and sedimentation; 2. reestablishing vegetative cover which is ecologically
• comparable to native pre-mine conditions; and 3. restoring livestock grazing, wildlife, watershed,
and aesthetic values to meet post-operation land use objectives. Revegetation will occur after final
grading and redistribution of subsoil and topsoil activities have taken place.
Revegetation communities representative of existing native pre-mine plant communities will tie
established. These communities are presented in Map 2.04.10-1. The surface mine area will be
reclaimed as grassland; however, shrub plots will be established throughout the grassland to
provide wildlife habitat. A summary of the revegetation sequence is as follows:
• Placement of boulder and brush piles, as appropriate, on surface mine.
• Seedbed preparation will be conducted immediately afer grading, topsoiling, and
subsoiling.
~ ~~~~
~o~~mrmerM'rc<-+amiYxooi..Pd 2.05-59a (revised 07/25/01)
