Best Manaeemrnt Practices Plan (coat) <br />Conttol of excessive suspended solids shall be undertakrn az necessary to prevrnt reaching surface <br />receiving waters and causing any receiving water deterioration. <br />Total susprnded solids can be reduced by filtering the discharge, by directing the wazer into a <br />settling basin and allowing the solids to settle, or by developing a cleazwdl and pumping from this <br />structure in the case of groundwater discharges. <br />In the case of animal or food wastes in the discharge, BOD should also be reduced by filtering <br />or screening out the solid particles before discharge of wastewater. Sweeping and removal of ail <br />debris possible shall be done prior to washing down areas thaz contain animal waztes, trash, dirt, <br />or vegetative debris (grass, leaves, etc.) Collected debris shall be disposed of properly aced <br />promptly so az not to coaram;nar~ any Wyt~ of the State. <br />Discharges that may contain oil or grease shall be treated with oil absorbent booms, socks, pads, <br />or direued through a filter structure containing oil absorbing material before discharge. An <br />oil/water separator may be needed to comply with the efflurnt limitations. <br />For discharges from swimming pools or other chlorinated water, chlorine shall be *~;++;m;~N; by <br />either chemical or physical means. <br />More discussion of BMPs can be found is seMion V.K. of the permit rationale. <br />
