Ms. Lemay
November 12, 1997
Page Nine

Property Values. Estimates from real estate professionals indicate that
current property values of the homes and farms in our neighborhood will
drop by as much as 50% after the beginning of mining operations. There
are currently no activ . ind ictrial ci .c within miles of the intersection of
C.R. 21 and F. Many of us in this neighborhood purchased our land or
houses because of the extremely quiet and rural nature of this part of
Montezuma County. To introduce a major, heavy industrial site, such as
a strip mine gravel pit and stone crushing operation, would fundamentally
alter the character and desirability of this region and probably eliminate the
possibility of re-sale of our homes. Does Mr. Stone plan to compensate the
financial losses to this neighborhood?
We join with other concerned neighbors and citizens of Montezuma County
to request that this Application be denied. There is no logical reason to destroy
this quiet neighborhood with the intrusion of a gravel pit operation. Mr. Stone's
lack of preparation and concern for environmental impact is evident in his
Application, which is inadequate and incomplete in so many details. We urge that
this Application be rejected and denied.
Sincerely yours,

Frederick W. Bell
Susan Campbell Bell
P.O.
