C~
METHODOLOGY
Aquatic macrophytes mapping was conducted for 100 m (328
ft) lengths of Foidel Creek Station 2, Middle Creek Stations 2
and 3, and at both of the Fish Creek stations. A 50 m (164 ft)
section was mapped for Middle Creek Station 1. Visual estimates
were used to map the extent of aquatic macrophyte coverage. The
algae, $Biroavra sp., was also included in the mapping,
The basic procedure was to collect two Ekman dredge samples
and two Surber-type square foot samples from each station's pool
habitat and riffle habitat, respectively. Where no flowing water
was found, four Ekman dredge samples were collected from the
wettest portion of the stream channel of that station. Each
• grab was placed in a 30 mesh sieve bucket and rinsed of excess
silt and debris, Henthic samples were then preserved in the field
with 758 ethanol and returned to the lab for enumeration and
identification. Organisms were identified to family and species
whenever feasible. The Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (D) was
used to calculate taxon diversity (Weber, 1973).
Conducting one pass with backpack electroshocking gear was
used to qualitatively sample the fish populations of Foidel Creek
Station 2 (50 m (164 ft] length), Middle Creek Station 1 (25 m
[82 ft]), Middle Creek Stations 2 and 3 (100 m [328 ft]), and
both stations on Fish Creek (100 m [328 ft]). The remaining
sampling stations that contained water were sampled by dip net
to determine the presence or absence of fish. Captured fish were
identified, enumerated, and released.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
$C1rDUS sp „ ~
shoreline vegetation
Station 2. Several
(Figure 2).
