~~
September 30, 1989 Daa M. Lynch
305 N.E. 170th
Sesttle, fiaahiagton 96155
hack Crichton
American Shield Coal Company
suite 175
10830 North Central Expressway
Dallas, Texas 75231
Mr. Crichton:
I am the surface owner of a portion of the land within American
Shield's lruita Mine area. She legal description of the land is
the area of the mine is as follows: Township 8S, Range lO1W,
Section 30, N} of the NE3.
It is my understanding that the site is to be reclaimed in the
near future. This letter is to inform all interested partitea
that I desire the bench area (formally used for the Truita ~1
portal area) and its associated access road to remain after
reclamation. I also understand that the bench may need to be
modified slightly to provide better slope stability.
The bench area has excellent views of the Colorado R1ver valley
not found often in the Book Cliffs due to the poor access. The
bench area is now well vegetated with grasses and does not have a
runoff problem. I would like to use the bench area for occasional
recreation, possibly installing a picnic table and a barbecue
pit. The site is significantly more valuable to me in this
configuration than the pre-mining steep slope. The pre-miming
slope wan too steep for nay use other than wildlife habitat.
Siacarely yours,
Dan M. Lynch

67
