I
• ~
Access is gained from the north off County Road 42. This ingr ss/egress
is the original roadway and there will be no need to improve t e access.
The access road is included in the 9.9 acre permit area.
No topsoil was salvaged from former operations here and n ne exists
within the permit boundary (all predisturbed areas). From exp rience
gained during crushing/screening operations conducted under th Special 111
application, the lack of fine-grained fractions in these materi is has so
far precluded the possible salvage of the fines. (Schmalz Construction,
Ltd. was the contractor under the County's Special 111 permit.) Also,
the volume of fines produced from crushing operations has been insignifi-
cant. Lenticular-shaped deposits of silt, however, are sometim s encountered
in such deposits and it is usually necessary to segregate these materials
from processing. If silt-rich masses are encountered during th deepening
of the pit, they will be saved for use in reclamation, but the ccurance of
such material is uncertain at this point.
Operations will involve the use of a frontend loader, doze ,crushing/
screening equipment and haul trucks. And possibly later a port ble asphalt
batch plant may be located on site. The locations of these fea ures and
the direction of mining is portrayed on the Exhibit C2 map. Th re are no
structures as described in Rule 1.56(5) within 200 feet of the roposed
permit boundaries.
The terrace remnant can be roughly described as an elevate peninsula-
shaped extension of the landscape. Former mining operations le t the
western side (upslope side) of the pit graded to approximately :1 slopes.
Mining under this plan will occur so that a 2:1 slope on the we tern side
