I
•
EXHIBIT B - MINING PLAN
The area to be mined lies entirely within a 16-acre pit arjd associated
disturbed areas created by the Colorado Division of Highways mire than 20
years ago. (The Exhibit C1 map included herein portrays this it and was
adapted from a U.S.G.S.Topographic Quadrangle drafted in 1964. The pit has
been enlarged in an easterly direction since that time.) The ite has been
subsequently disturbed by periodic operations conducted by Gun ison County
and various private operators. In August, 1984, a five acre S cial 111
permit was issued to Gunnison County for this site, for the pu pose of ex-
tracting 30,000 cubic yards of aggregate in order to upgrade Co my Road 42
damaged by flooding in 1984 and for construction of an access t the new
county landfill located nearby. Only about 10,000 cubic yards f material,
however, was actually mined under the existing Special 111 Permit, and
county activities have now been completed. The function of thi application
is to allow Schmalz Construction, Ltd. to succeed as operator t the site
through the submittal of a new Limited Impact application. Thi application
will also expand the affected area to 9.9 acres. The applicati n incorporates
the entire area permitted to Gunnison County. The Exhibit C2 m p illustrates
the areas of historic disturbance as well as the permit boundar proposed
in this submittal. Also attached to this exhibit are photograp s (Fig. 1)
of the pit taken in September 1984. They are included for use s visual
aids to help portray the existing and adjacent conditions at th's site.
The gravel pit lies on a high, dry terrace outlier above michi Creek,
with an attitude of approximately 800 feet south and 65 feet a ve the stream.
