Lance <br />RE: Dotsero Cinder Cone Revegetation <br />DA"1'I;: August 21 , 1979 <br />This site is prohably one of the most harsh sites we have to work with. <br />4Jhere applicable (stockpile areas, etc'.) should be ripped but left rou h! <br />The shaping of side .slopes would be minimal due to the steepness of these <br />areas. The seed mix should be broadcast into these areas also. <br />.. We have had success with Indian Riceyrass at Gypsum leaving the side slope <br />- roughened perpendicular to the slope, hand broadcasting seed and blowing <br />on straw over this. I have my doubts that, in this case, the straw mulch <br />would be a cost effective procedure. <br />My recommendation would be to leave the slopes rough enough .so that winter <br />moisture and freeze/thaw action would slough enough soil over the seed to <br />cover thee.
