Lance
RE: Dotsero Cinder Cone Revegetation
DA"1'I;: August 21 , 1979
This site is prohably one of the most harsh sites we have to work with.
4Jhere applicable (stockpile areas, etc'.) should be ripped but left rou h!
The shaping of side .slopes would be minimal due to the steepness of these
areas. The seed mix should be broadcast into these areas also.
.. We have had success with Indian Riceyrass at Gypsum leaving the side slope
- roughened perpendicular to the slope, hand broadcasting seed and blowing
on straw over this. I have my doubts that, in this case, the straw mulch
would be a cost effective procedure.
My recommendation would be to leave the slopes rough enough .so that winter
moisture and freeze/thaw action would slough enough soil over the seed to
cover thee.
