Barb: <br />~ 10 June 1982 an inspection of power poles was made on Po~~erhorn Coal Cat~any <br />~7perty. These poles are located in an area between the cliffs and the Colorado <br />aes and represent the only perch sites available to raptors in that area. <br />Those who participate3 in the ~n~-+~on tour included Henry Barb, Elivisormtental <br />Specialist, Pow~ierhorn Coal Canpany; Bill Mytttm, wildlife Assistance Biologist, <br />U. S. Fish and wildlife Service, and myself. <br />Following our visual ~n~~*~on these re~ndations are made to prevent the <br />electrocution of raptors: <br />1. A fibs=class or ~~oden triangle, according to sFecifications found in the <br />Raptor RAsearch Bulletin entitled, "Suggested Practices far Raptor Pro- <br />t,-coon on Power Lines, The State of the Art 1981", should be placed L-etween <br />the two power Lines attac'~ed to one side of the crossarm. <br />2. Any Roles having a ground wire runnir:g flan the top static line to the <br />ground should be periodically inspected for electsoc~atecl raptors.
