The discussion centered on the current status of
the site. The Division does not fcel that the information submitted to date is sufScient to inactivate the permit at
this time. There are sill too many unanswered questions conceFimg groundwater movement. Additionally, the
seep report you submitted was not sufficiently detailed. We need to insure that the mine is not causing an
impact to water quality. Through our conversation with the DMG, it was determined that the information that
they required to set a point of compliance is very similar to the information the Division needs to determine if
there are any surface water impacts. Therefore, it seems to be the best use of state and comparry's resources if
the two Divisions work together with you to resolve the technical issues at the site. It is anticipated these
conversations will start N the near futtue. Once the technical issues are addressed it may be more appropriate
for to to meet.
' Once the Division has determined that the site is not causing an impact on the surface waters m the area, we will
inform you that an inactivation request will be processed. Until that time, the Division expects that Homestake
will comply fully with all the requirements of the pemtit.
' Please contact me or Patricia Nelson of y s ;
~z~ ~~
' erely,
J.
