4. Is erosion occurring at the discharge outlet? Yes _ No X . if yes, evaluate the severity: Extensive,
Moderate, Just Starting, None.
EMERGENCY SPILLWAY
1. Is the overall emergency spillway system of currently capable of passing the design storrn discharge? Yes
No
The capacity of the spillway was not checked.
2. Does it appear as if the emergency spillway has discharged water since the last inspection? Yes _ No
X.
3. Is erosion occurring a[ any section of the emergency spillway? Yes _ No X . Describe extent and
location: None.
SEDIMENT STORAGE CAPACITY
1. Has the design sediment storage capacity of the reservoir been surpassed? Yes _ No X . Lf yes,
explain.
Pond design parameters are presented in the following table. A sediment delta was ob:;erved forming at
the inlet to the pond. The apex of the delta was estimated to be at an elevation of 7113, the fan extending
out into the pond for 30 feet at an elevation of 7111 (pebble soundings). The volume of the delta of
sediment would be approximately 0.04 acre feet or 2% of sediment storage.
PARAMETER VOLUME (acre feet) ELEVATION
Primary spillway 8.98 7,115.0
Water level in pond 7,112
100% sediments[orage 2.33 7,111.1
60% sediment storage 1.49 7,110.5
Bottom of pond 7,109.5
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
1. Indications of potential failure or instability: None. There were no indications of slumps, slides, cracks,
or differential settlement on the embankment (upstream slope or downstream slope).
2. There were no indications of rodent activity on the embankment (upstream slope or downstream slope).
3. Some measurements were taken with an Abney Level, stadia readings, tapes and paces. A comparison of
design parameters to field measurements are presented in the following table:
PARAMETER DESIGN FIELD MEASUREMENT
Upstream slope 2 horizontal to 1 vertical or
26.6° 21° to 30°
Crest width 12 feet Minimum width <.ection: 6 [eet
Golden Eagle Mine Sedimentation Pond 003, 29 March 94, Page 2 0l 3 Pages
