reference surface will be in a southerly direction. L'•ventually
• most of the ground waters of this domain come under the influence
of the 1'erine Peak Syncline and Durango Anticline. As shown on
Map A, these structures are nearly parallel over a considerable
distance. The Anticline is about ]00 feet higher across the section
than the trough of the syncline, and acts as a barrier, slowing then
diverting the ground water flow to the southwest along the axis of
the syncline.
The trough of the syncline with its low angle of pitch has some
characteristics of an underground basin. The ground waters of the
domain--from the northeast and the area of applicant's coal lands,
from the north, and from the northwest and the Hesperus area -
• all are squeezed into the trough region, creating a region of higher
saturation than exists in any of the tributary areas.
From the above reasoning, it would seem that water wells in
Sections 33 and 34 would receive little ground water from the capture
and collecting areas of the domain just discussed. Wells in Sections
22, 27 and 28 will fare only slightly better except in years of excep-
tionally heavy precipitation. The Morlan well near the center of
Section 28 is an exception due to its location well down on the north-
west flank of the Durango Anticline. As can be noted in Table I,
most of the wells in these areas have low yields.
- 28-
