AM
• 4.0 SURFACE WATER
Trapper Mine monitored one stream site and sixteen active NPDES discharge sites
during 1999. The stream site is Flume Gulch (S-1), which was flowing during the May
1999 sampling. Flow was observed at NPDES sites 001, 002, 011, 013 and 017 in 1999.
Baseline stream site East Pyeatt (S3) is also NPDES site 011. Sites were monitored weekly
throughout the year. Sites NPDES 003, 005, 006, 008, 009, 010, 012, 014, 015, 016, 019
and 020 did not discharge during 1999. Maps No. 2-1 through 2-3 show the locations of
these surface-water sites.
4.1 SURFACE-WATER FLOW
The 1999 flow data tabulated in Appendix C in Table C-1 represents instantaneous
• measurements associated with NPDES water-quality sampling. Surface runoff was less
than normal in 1999 at the Trapper Mine. Flow measurements and a sample were taken
once during 1999 for Flume Gulch site S-1.
Figures C-1 through C-4 present the instantaneous flow versus time for the Trapper
NPDES sites for 1999. Flow was occurring during the weekly sample at NPDES 001 every
week with a very low rate in mid-1999. The high flow during sampling was a flow of 273
gpm on April 29, 1999. High flows existed more often due to snow melt at NPDES 002
than at NPDES 001 during 1999 with a peak sample flow of 625 gpm (see Figure C-2).
The peak flows at both of these sites are significantly less than their 1998 peaks. Flow did
not occur at NPDES sites 003, 005, 006, 008, 010, 014 or 015 in 1999. These sites did
exhibit some flow in 1998. Surface flow at NPDES 011 existed during portions of February
• through June in 1999 with a sampling peak flow of 363 gpm on April 27, 1999 (see Figure
4-1
