Of the Latilong mammals listed, only the ninon mouse <br />regaires juniper community types for survival. 'iowever, the <br />mining operation should not impact the survival of the species, <br />if it occurs on the mine site. <br />TH,t,;A~lRiVED A~vD EivDAircTr;tir',ll SrECIc3: <br />A Bald Eagle has been observed roosting on the Animas <br />River, south of the permit area, but not bordering the area. <br />The mine site offers no roosting or nesting habitat for the <br />eagles. <br />ADDITIUiVAL OB3rc3VaTIUirs: <br />L•:ine personnel were periodically asked about ti.eir <br />• observations of wildlife sightings. Responses included seeing <br />a group of approximately 50 elic in December 1941 to the west of <br />the mine site. Since this time, smaller groups of five to ten <br />have been seen to the west and sout!i of the permit Brea. This <br />area includes an old wheat field that provides accessible winter <br />forage. mule deer have been observed in groups of four to six <br />since December at the southern end of the mine area. Sear trac:cs <br />were found along the road leading to the permit area on January <br />2U, 1952. Also observed by mine personnel were a porcupine and <br />ground squirrel. These ooservations have beerL included on tie <br />attached map. <br />HAr1ITAT r;V:i1~UAY'IU~V <br />• The mine site is a Pinyon-Juniper community. It is dominated <br />by Pinyon and Utau Juniper. L::any species of mo..ntiaia shrugs also <br />occur. The rinyon-Juniper overs~ory is mature and of even.aoe. <br />
