Page 2
We would like to bring to your attention species which are candidates for
official listing as threatened or endangered species (Federal Register, Vol.
56, No. 225, November 21, 1991). While these species presently have no legal
protection under the Endangered Species Act (Act), it is within the spirit of
the Act to consider project impacts to potentially sensitive candidate
species. Additionally, we wish to make you aware of the presence of Federal
candidates should any be proposed or listed prior to the time that all Federal
actions related to the project are completed.
CANDIDATE SPECIES
Ferruginous hawk Buteo regalis
Northern goshawk Accipiter gentilis
Southwestern willow flycatcher Emoidomax trailii extimus
Flannelmouth sucker Catostomus latipinnis
Roundtail chub Gila robusta
r~
The candidate bird species may nest in the mining area. If any riparian
vegetation is disturbed in the drainages on either side of the mining area
southwestern willow flycatchers should be searched for. Activity should be
avoided during February 1 to July 15 for these bird species. The candidate
fish species could be similarly impacted to the endangered fishes by water
depletions or contamination.
If the Service can be of further assistance, please contact Terry Ireland at
the letterhead address.
Sincerely,
.
